Less Is More Exploration Series

These are specialty golf tours and not suited for everyone. The tours explore some remote and very authentic, scenic and historic places and courses that most have not visited.

By “Less Is More” we mean less expensive and less well kent courses, less comfort, less urban areas and fewer visiting golfers. And in general, less of all you expect on a golf tour. But more nature spotting. More adventures. More truly unique courses. More rural environments. But also, more ferries, more driving and more effort required by each of us to enable us to get close-up to the core and roots of true Scottish golf.

Most golfers want comfort, courses with a high finish and a 4 star hotel and little travel. Instead, on this tour there may be sheep who do the maintenance of the area between the tee and the fenced greens, it may be hard to find the the ball even after a straight tee shot due to the multitude of flowers in the fairway (if there is a fairway). And the trip may involve several ferries and a lot of driving on single track roads with passing places and un-hotel-like accommodation. These tours are not for the golfer expecting well-kept tees, greens and fairways. On the contrary, expect that the finish could be quite rough.

So, for 99 out of 100 golfers, this is not a suitable kind of tour for you.

But if you are a dreamer, life connoisseur, golf historian and nature & outdoor lover and enjoy the reward of enduring some hardships, this tour could be one of your best golfing weeks ever – and unlike any other. We will stop to enjoy views, small the flowers and may even cook meals outdoor. If you feel this is for you, get in touch!

You also need to understand that there can be as many as 9 ferries in 8 days and the possibility of adverse weather and ferry cancellations, when we may need to improvise and switch to Plan B. In such case, and with accommodation in short supply in small villages, we may even have to use our emergency tent or share a double bed with a farting friend (fingers crossed).

The number of golfers, including myself, is typically capped to 6. One reason is to enable luggage space in the van, enabling us to travel without towing a trailer. A second reason is that accommodation for groups is limited in remote villages which could be important in the Plan B situation.
