Activities in and near Troon

The area offers an abundance of things to do and see in and around Troon. Here are some of the things on offer and that we can include in your groups customized itinerary:

Beaches – the 13 km south beach is irrestistable. North of Troon is another 22 km streth of beaches. Here you can go bathing, sunbathing, kitesurfing, dogwalking or just enjoy a peaceful walk and reflect on life

Heads of Ayr Farm Park – a nice place to go if you bring children with animals indoors and outdoors; primals, reptiles, mammals. And a nice restaurant/café.

Rugby. Marr RFC play in the premiership with home matches every other Saturday during the season. Going to a game is great fun and the folk in the bar are very welcoming. Note: Rugby is said to be a hooligan’s game for gentlemen, as opposed to football which is a gentlemen’s game for hooligans

Culzean Castle and Gardens, an impressive castle/stately home overlooking the Firth of Clyde near Maybole & Trump Turnberry, dating back to 1777 with beautiful rooms, armoury, a café, gardens and walks, run by National Trust for Scotland

Brodick castle and Gardens on the Isle of Arran, complete interior just as it was left by the last owner. Belonged to the Hamilton clan.

Isle of Arran (“Scotland in miniature”): 2 distilleries, Brodick Castle & Gardens, perfume factory, ice-cream factory, walks, 7 golf courses, bars with live music, waterfall

Distilleries, both on Arran, outside Glasgow and in southern Dumfries and Galloway. Tours and tastings offered.

Langholm Farm, a 5 minute drive outside Troon, offers home baking, coffée and tea, and own food products for sale, all in a nice farm setting

Pub-crawling in Troon with numerous pubs, bars, some of them with live music

Shopping in Ayr or Glasgow

Robert Burns Birthday Museum in Ayr/Alloway and nearby the Burns cottage, Burns Monument and the Brig o’Doon House Hotel, very suitable for a nice dinner (or to get married)

Dumfries House, a large country house in a large estate with chippendale furniture. Café and food.

Maritime Museum in Irvine – museum for all things shipping

Glasgow Mural Trail Follow the map in your phone, create your own bespoke tour of up to 25 muralsyou can go on a virtual visit to more than 25 murals. The trail offers expert insights into the murals, as well as some information about things to see and do nearby; sound tracks have been recorded for the most iconic murals, scroll through the images to listen.

Boat trips, several options available; ferries, steamers, taxi boats and possibly on request even our partners fishing boat – enquire!

Hiking, there is an abundance of walks and hicking tracks in Ayrshire. Ayrshire coastal path is a long strech of walks along the West coast. Clyde Muirshild Regional Park between Largs and Glasgow has many walks, cycle tracks. Going south from Troon you find Galloway Forest Park with a rich supply of walks and outdoor activities, wildlife watching and more.

Winterstorm, a rock and folk music festival with live bands playing in parallell in various venues in Troon, next time 25-26 Nov 2022

Ayrshire Beer Festival, held yearly in Troon Town Hall is a festival of real ales with about 400 different ale to taste. Was cancelled 2021 due to the pandemic. Read more on https://www.ayrshirebeerfestival.co.uk/

Celtic Connections, Glasgow’s annual folk, roots and world music festival celebrates its connections to cultures across the globe. From 20 January – 6 February 2022, over 2,100 musicians from around the world bring the city to life for 18 days. During that time, there are concerts, ceilidhs, talks, art exhibitions, workshops, and free events.

Cycling – The National Cycle Network passes through Maybole, across the Carrick Hills to the coastline at Doonfoot. It passes along the beach front at Ayr and Prestwick, along the golf courses of Troon to the harbour of Irvine. It then travels to Kilwinning and inland to Kilbirnie on its way to Glasgow.
