Ayrshire Golf Courses

When customizing your tour, we generally recommend playing the true links courses that are almost unique to the British isles, and particulary the local courses. There are 211 true links on the British isles and only 36 in the rest of the world, so take the opportunity to play these almost unique true links during your stay here.

Note: By True Links, we refer to courses assessed to be True links in the book True Links, by George Pepper and Malcolm Campbell.

This table from www.theukgolfguy.com shows Golf World’s Top 100 Scottish golf courses. Note

Picture from The UK golf guy, see www.theukgolfguy.com, showing Golf World’s recent ranking of the top 100 Scottish courses (mostly, but not only links).

Note that 6 of the top 20 are from the relatively small region of Ayrshire & Arran, Kintyre & Islay that HGT specializes in, see numbers: 2, 10, 14, 18, 19, 20, 23, 31, 32, 33, 40, 48, 59, 61, 75, 78, 81 and 92, in total 18 True Links in our neck of the woods). Or as we say; West is Best!

True Links in Ayrshire

We are proud that South Ayrshire, and specifically the area around Troon has the greatest concentation of true links in the whole world, with even more adjacent links than the area around Carnoustie, St Andrews or East Lothian. You can play a ball between these adjacent courses in one shot (two to Prestwick) without beeing out of bounds. From north to south they are:

Kintyre & Islay

Frequently HGT has taken groups to Kintyre where Machrihanish old course, Machrihanish Dunes, Dunaverty and the little 9 hole gem in Carradale awaits us. There is also talk about building a second course beside the Machrihanish Dunes. We normally stay in a farmhouse with plenty of bedrooms and beds and a fireplace.

Other locations – Wales, St Andrews, Highlands, Ireland & Northern Ireland and locations in England

Most groups start by making a tour to Ingvars home hoods in Troon & Arran and most groups are also returning customers. On the second or third trip most groups want to go to new areas, such as Northern Ireland, St Andrews and other locations. HGT is happy to organize tours to all of the British Isles.

Do get in touch with us for advice what courses your group would appreciate the most.
